(Lack of) Security Strikes Apple Again

PayPal says to steer clear of Apple’s Safari web browser if you plan to use their services. Seems that Apple has found security to not be important again to its faithful followers. This is nothing new from Apple so it shouldn’t be a surprise.

“Apple, unfortunately, is lagging behind what they need to do, to protect their customers,” Michael Barrett, PayPal’s Chief Information Security Officer said in an interview. “Our recommendation at this point, to our customers, is use Internet Explorer 7 or 8 when it comes out, or Firefox 2 or Firefox 3, or indeed Opera.”

Opera, IE, and Firefox are “safer, precisely because we think they are safer for the average consumer,” he added. “I’d love to say that Safari was a safer browser, but at this point it isn’t.”

Sun Completes the MySQL Buy Out

MySQL / Sun MicrosystemsSun Microsystems completed its buy out of MySQL today. The final price turned out to be $1 billion including $800 million in cash and $200 million in Sun stock. Not a bad deal for the little open source data system.
